The Western Ventura County Employer Advisory Council presents “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Employee? Effective (and Legal!) Workplace Discipline,” scheduled for Wednesday, July 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, located at 600 Esplanade Drive in Oxnard. Attorney Karen L. Gabler, of LightGabler, will discuss proactive counseling measures employers can implement to solve employee problems without increasing the risk of litigation.

The topics Ms. Gabler will cover in this information-packed seminar include: the essential elements of a workplace conduct policy, why “progressive discipline” is actually backward, the top buzzwords to use in a counseling memo, when to use probation and suspension (and when to pay for it), the three critical pieces often missing from a disciplinary memo, and how to improve employee morale through productive counseling.

Additionally, Jane Suhr, District Director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, will speak briefly on the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974.

The cost for “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Employee? Effective (and Legal!) Workplace Discipline” is $30, which includes lunch. Visit www.wvceac.net for reservations and more information.
